Walkers urged to 'ditch patterned wellies'

Those who like to spend their weekends taking walking holidays in the countryside have been advised to invest in proper walking boots for their rambling breaks – and to get rid of patterned fashion wellies.

Online manager at ECCO® Shoes Hilary Fletcher said that walking boots are ‘ideal for walks in the countryside’ and could stand ‘splashing through puddles’ and other things which those on a walking holiday may encounter.

‘There's no support in wellies,’ she commented, ‘so walking boots are ideal for protecting the ankle and giving the foot the support it needs on rough terrain. Wellies also make your feet sweat a lot.’

There are many areas in the UK that are ideal for walking, such as National Parks the Lake District and the Peak District.

Also, many towns in the UK have been awarded the Walkers Are Welcome status, and those planning a walking holiday could find it wise to check whether their chosen destination is on the list.

Areas given the accolade have good public transport links and other facilities for ramblers.
